L’11 settembre 2001 ha cambiato in modo radicale la vita di tutto l’Occidente. Da quel giorno abbiamo scoperto nel modo più duro che i nemici non si trovano solo all’esterno, lontano, ma bensì ovunque. Possono sederci accanto mentre beviamo tranquillamente un caffè – come hanno confermato i tragici fatti di Parigi.
Anche il modo di fare la guerra è cambiato, insieme con la nostra mentalità. Il terrorismo è un fenomeno sfuggente, difficile da contenere, che può materializzarsi all’improvviso seminando morte e distruzione.
Gli Stati Uniti guidano da oltre un decennio un’alleanza internazionale contro il terrore, convivendo con la necessità costante di giustificare ai propri cittadini i bombardamenti, le invasioni, soprattutto le migliaia di morti lasciati sul campo.
Dopo i primi tempi, l’opinione pubblica a stelle e strisce ha cambiato orientamento, spingendo anche il governo e le forze armate a modificare il proprio modus d’attacco. Si è arrivati così all’utilizzo dei droni, aerei intelligenti guidati da piloti in maniera sicura dalle basi a terra.
Uccidere senza essere fisicamente sul campo di battaglia rende meno sporca, ingiusta e cruenta una guerra? Andrew Niccol pone questo difficile quesito etico-politico allo spettatore con il suo nuovo film, “Good kill”.
Protagonista è il pilota di F-16, maggiore Thomas Egan (Hawke), che dopo aver prestato servizio in ben quattro missioni militari operative in Iraq è stato assegnato alla guida dei droni nella base di Las Vegas.
Sulla carta quello di Niccol dovrebbe essere un film di guerra, ma il pubblico si trova fin da subito coinvolto in una storia dove prevalgono gli aspetti psicologico e intimistico più che l’azione. I combattimenti, le morti e le operazioni militari sono infatti visti attraverso uno schermo, attraverso gli occhi del protagonista.
Una pellicola bellica atipica, claustrofobica, asettica, dove il dolore e il sangue non si vedono. Eppure le immagini provenienti dai monitor non lasciano indifferenti e come dice uno dei protagonisti, il tenente colonnello Jonhns (Bruce Greenwood, solido e credibile nel ruolo), quando arringa le nuove reclute: “Non pensiate di giocare alla Playstation, qui quando si spara si uccide veramente”. continua su

Kill without being physically on the battlefield makes it less dirty, bloody and unjust war? Andrew Niccol puts this difficult ethical-political question to the viewer with his new film, “Good Kill”.
The protagonist is the pilot of F-16, Major Thomas Egan (Hawke), who after serving in four operational military missions in Iraq was assigned to guide drones based in Las Vegas.
On paper to Niccol it should be a war movie, but the public is immediately involved in a story where prevail psychological aspects and intimate rather than the action. The fighting, deaths and military operations are in fact seen through a screen, through the eyes of the protagonist.
An atypical war drama, claustrophobic, tank, where the pain and the blood can not be seen.
