Se esiste un crimine peggiore dell’abuso su un bambino aiutatemi a trovarlo, perché al momento io non ci riesco. Immaginate poi che il pedofilo in questione indossi l’abito talare. Lo sconcerto e la rabbia che si provano diventano, se possibile, ancora maggiori.
Mentre scorrevano i titoli di coda di “Spotlight” al cinema, tra pochi, timidi applausi e un rumorosissimo silenzio a fare da sottofondo, riflettevo su come scrivere questa recensione e anche sul modo in cui il film potrà essere accolto in un paese come il nostro.
Personalmente mi definisco un credente non praticante, eppure di fronte a questa pellicola ho sentito, da un lato, la mia fede farsi più forte, dall’altro ho provato ira e disgusto verso chi agisce in modo deviato in nome di questa stessa fede.
Il film racconta in maniera cruda e diretta la storia di quattro giornalisti del Boston Globe, che si uniscono in un gruppo, chiamato “Spotlight”, specializzato nel realizzare inchieste accurate e rigorose.
Nell’estate del 2001, su richiesta del nuovo direttore, di fede ebraica, Marty Baron (Schreiber), il gruppo inizia a indagare su alcuni casi di abusi su minori, attribuiti a sacerdoti di Boston e insabbiati dalle alte sfere ecclesiastiche.
Robby Robinson (Ketaton), direttore dello Spotlight, inizialmente scettico, insieme alla sua squadra – composta da Michael Rezendenes (Ruffalo), Sacha Pfeiffer e Ben Bradlle (Slattery) – arriva a scoprire che la portata dell’orrore è molto più ampia di quanto creduto all’inizio. I casi di pedofilia a Boston coinvolgono infatti 92 preti e bambini di differenti parrocchie.
Il team, nella sua ricerca di verità, viene aiutato non solo dalle vittime, costrette per anni al silenzio e raccolte in una piccola associazione, ma soprattutto dal battagliero avvocato Mitchell Garabedian (Tucci), che rappresenta gli abusati nella battaglia contro la Chiesa.
L’indagine porta allo scoperto l’esistenza di una sorta di “mafia bianca” a Boston, che da decenni copre le colpe dei prelati, riducendo le vittime al silenzio grazie a un piccolo indennizzo in cambio di riservatezza, e lascia i carnefici impuniti limitandosi ad attuare solo la politica del trasferimento di parrocchia.
Si potrebbe essere tentati di vedere la pellicola come una crociata contro il Cattolicesimo e i cattolici in generale: in realtà si tratta di una presa di posizione contro la parte “malata” del clero e delle alte sfere. Contro chi ha approfittato di bambini indifesi, cresciuti tra povertà e ignoranza; contro chi ha permesso che questo accadesse e ha insabbiato la cosa, pur di preservare una pulizia di facciata. continua su

While flowing the credits of “Spotlight” to the movies, in a few, tentative applause and a loud silence to do the background, I thought about writing this review and also on the way in which the film will be received in a country like ours .
Personally myself a practicing believer, yet faced with this film I felt, on the one hand, my faith getting stronger, on the other hand I felt anger and disgust towards those who act so diverted in the name of this same faith.
