“Qualcosa di Buono” è un film del 2014 diretto da George C. Wolfe, scritto da Shana Feste, Jordan Roberts, con: Hilary Swank, Emmy Rossum, Josh Duhamel,Stephanie Beatriz, Jason Ritter, Julian McMahon, Ali Larter, Frances Fisher, Marcia Gay Harden, Ernie Hudson, Loretta Devine.
Lo scorso anno cinematografico ha visto il trionfo agli Oscar di Julianne Moore per la sua toccante interpretazione di una paziente di Alzheimer nell’intenso “Still Alice”.
Se l’Azheimer ti corrode la mente svuotandoti di ogni ricordo fino a farti diventare un involucro vuoto, se possibile la S.L A è anche peggiore facendoti diventare un bambola di marmo incapace di compiere qualunque gesto senza un aiuto esterno
La Sla è una malattia rara neurodegenerativa che colpisce drammaticamente e indistintamente giovani e vecchi senz’ alcuna possibilità di guarigione.
Il malato di SLA si paralizza lentamente nei muscoli, nella voce, nei movimenti, nella respirazione costringendolo a una vita sofferta per sè e i suoi cari fino a che il suo cuore smette di funzionare.
Questa è la storia di Kate(Swank) bella donna di 35 anni, moglie felice e talentuosa pianista che sta vivendo una vita perfetta fino a quando la SLA non si presenta alla sua porta stravolgendone l’esistenza.
Nel giro di diciotto mesi dalla scoperta del primo sintomo lo spettatore osserva la “decadenza” fisica di Kate e l’essere costretta ad accettare l’aiuto dell’ apparente innamorato e devoto marito anche per lavarsi e truccarsi.
Kate è una donna orgogliosa, ama vestirsi bene e prendersi cura del proprio corpo e non accetta di dipendere da un’infermiera per ogni cosa desiderando di essere considerata ancora una donna a tutti i livelli. Così decide di assumere, tra lo stupore e irritazione dei parenti,la giovane studentessa Bec(Rossum) che nonostante non abbia alcuna qualifica medica o professionale si rivela fin da subito l’ideale spalla per Kate.
Le due donne ben presto si scoprono complementari e soprattutto amiche vincendole barriere sociali e culturali che le dividevano all’inizio costruendo così un rapporto sincero,intenso e solidale
Kate vede in Bec ciò che è stata e che non potrà più essere spronandola ad usare in meglio le sue potenzialità come cantautrice mentre Bec trova in Kate l’opportunità di riscattare una vita finora priva di stimoli e obiettivi e soprattutto di dimostrare a se stessa di valere qualcosa e di poter essere utile per qualcosa.
Un testo ben scritto, pulito e semplice che racconta si di dolore,malattia e nel finale di morte, ma che esalta il concetto di amicizia, condivisone e partecipazione tra due esseri umani e in particolare tra due donne e di come sia possibile che due mondi opposti e distanti possano trovarsi e ruotare in armonia sullo stesso emisfero . Un testo forse troppo preciso e puntuale nel descrivere visivamente la via crucis del paziente di SLA rimanendo però paradossalmente quasi asettico sul piano emotivo. Lo spettatore osserva,si turba, ma non scatta fino in fondo l’empatia con la protagonista riscontrando all’interno della sofferenza una versione più scenica che reale.
La regia anche se di taglio televisivo è di buon livello, attenta a curare i dettagli e nel raccontare con buon ritmo la storia d’amicizia tra le due donne e declinando con i giusti tempi la fase drammatica della vicenda mantenendo un discreto pathos narrativo magari con parte finale più stucchevole e densa di buonismo e soprattutto. Prevedibile.
Essendo un fan accanito di Hilary Swank fin dai tempi di Karate Kid non posso che essere felice di scrivere di perfomance di alto livello sia dal punto di livello recitativo, dopo le ultime opache perfomance, che per intensità emotiva mantenendo quasi sempre un profilo misurato senza mai eccedere in toni manieristici riuscendo a portare in scena il decoro e la dignità di una paziente di SLA.
Piacevole sorpresa cinematografica è stata la scoperta di Emmy Rossum, puntuale, precisa, intensa e talentuosa nell’affrontare il suo personaggio rendendola vivace,umana e reale nella sua poliedricità. La coppia Swank- Rossum funziona, si sostiene a vicenda sulla scena creando buone vibrazioni con il pubblico.
E’ difficile non essere partecipi e coinvolti nel tragico e inevitabile finale eppure lo spettatore non potrà pensare che possa essere “Qualcosa di Buono” avere un rapporto come le due le donne del film per rendere meno amara il passaggio di una malattia, aihmè ,mortale.

ALS is a rare neurodegenerative disorder that dramatically affects young and old alike and senz ‘no chance of recovery.
The ALS sufferer will slowly paralyzes the muscles, voice, movement, breathing, forcing him to a painful life for himself and his family until his heart stops working.
This is the story of Kate (Swank) beautiful 35 year old woman, wife happy and talented pianist who is living a perfect life until the SLA does not show up at his door distorting existence.
Within eighteen months after the discovery of the first symptom the viewer observes the “decadence” of physical Kate and being forced to accept the help of ‘apparent love and devoted husband also to wash and wear makeup.
Kate is a proud woman, likes to dress well and take care of your body and does not accept to depend on a nurse for everything wishing to be considered even a woman at all levels. So he decides to take, to the surprise and irritation of the relatives, the young student Bec (Rossum) who despite not having any medical or professional qualification proves immediately the ideal shoulder for Kate.
The two women soon discover complementary and winning them friends especially social and cultural barriers that divided the beginning thus building a relationship sincere, intense and supportive
Kate sees Bec what was and what will no longer be spurring it to use in its maximum potential as a songwriter while Bec located in Kate the opportunity to redeem a life so far devoid of ideas and goals, and especially to prove to herself worth something and can be useful for something.
A well-written text, clean and simple that tells you of pain, disease and death in the final, but that enhances the concept of friendship, sharing and participation between two human beings and in particular between two women and how it is possible that two worlds opposites and far can be rotated and in harmony on the same hemisphere. A text may be too precise and accurate in describing visually for the suffering patient of ALS while remaining paradoxically almost aseptic emotionally. The viewer observes, is troubled, but it snaps to the bottom of empathy with the protagonist experiencing inside of suffering a more scenic than real.
Directed although cutting television is good, careful to handle the details and with good rhythm in telling the story of the friendship between the two women, and declining with the right timing phase of the dramatic story maintaining decent narrative pathos perhaps with the final most cloying and thick with doing good and above. Predictable.
Being an avid fan of Hilary Swank since the time of Karate Kid, I can only be happy to write high-level of performance both in terms of level recitative, after the last performance opaque, which emotional intensity for maintaining a profile almost always measured without err on the tones mannerist managing to stage decorum and dignity of a patient with ALS.
Pleasant surprise film was the discovery of Emmy Rossum, punctual, precise, intense and talented in dealing with her character making vibrant, human and real in its versatility. The couple Swank- Rossum works, it supports each other on the scene creating good vibes with the audience.
It ‘hard not to be involved and participate in the tragic and inevitable end but the viewer can not think that it can be “Something Good” to have a relationship as the two women in the film to make it less bitter the passing of a disease, Aihm, deadly .
