“Pixels” è un film del 2015 di Chris Columbus , scritto da Timothy Dowling, Tim Herlihy, con : Adam Sandler, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad,Michelle Monaghan, Kevin James.
Nel 1989 il cantante Raf si chiese cosa sarebbe rimasto degli anni 80 e decidendo di farci una canzone “Cosa resterà degli anni 80”, arrivata quindicesima al Festival di Sanremo , ma poi diventata presto un cult.
Sugli anni 80 si possono dire tante cose, per molti fu la vera età dell’oro, per altri l’età dell’eccesso e dell’edonismo sfrenato, ma per la mia generazione fu soprattutto gli anni della sala giochi e dei video games come: pac- man, space invanders, donkey kong e centipede.
Quanti pomeriggi trascorsi con questi meravigliosi alieni e simpatici mostri, giochi che visti con l’occhio dei ragazzi oggi oltre a sembrare tecnologicamente arcaici risultano anche noiosi.
I ragazzi degli anni 80 si accontentavano di poco e avevano tanti sogni come ad esempio vincere il campionato mondiale dei video giochi come Sam Brenner( Sandller), Will Cooper (James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Gad).
Sam è davvero il più bravo di tutti e meriterebbe di vincere il titolo, ma è costretto a cedere il passo nella finale contro Eddie “The Fire Blaster” Plant (Peter Dinklage) nella partita spareggio di Donkey Kong.
Una sconfitta che gli condiziona la vita al punto che oggi, nonostante i suoi talenti informatici,è un anonimo installatore continuando ad avere come migliore amico Will, divenuto invece il più contestato e imbranato Presidente degli Stati Uniti della storia.
Si sa però basta poco per diventare un eroe e nel caso di Sam ciò accadde quando la Terra viene attaccata da un gruppo di buffi Alieni ,che ricevuta dalla Nasa anni prima primala cassetta della finale dei video giochi, valutando gli umani ostili decidono di sfidarli non armi tecnologiche e pericolose,ma tramite i mostri degli anni 80. Di fatto mettendo in ambasce i militari e costringendo Will a chiedere aiuto ai suoi vecchi amici, veri esperti del campo.
Scordatevi film come “Independence Day” e affini, qui gli Alieni comunicano attraverso le icone musicali degli anni 80 tipo Madonna o gli attori tipo Fonzie o le serie cult come “Fantasilandia” e hanno come codice d’onore le regole delle tre vite stile sala giochi.
Lo spettatore entra così in battaglia insieme con Sam e i suoi amici dall’India a Londra fino a New York senza vedere una goccia di sangue, ma assistendo a divertenti scontri all’ultimo pixel vedendo in scena i vari mostri della nostra giovinezza
Un film che punta sulla nostalgia e amarcord più che su vero testo o sui dei dialoghi credibili e incisivi.
Lo spettatore eviti di farsi domande e di interrogasi sugli evidenti buchi di sceneggiatura come ad esempio chi siano questi Alieni e da dove vengano, ma si faccia trasportare in questo gigantesco video gioco sul grande schermo e non potrà non ridere ed emozionarsi ricordando un’età ormai lontana.
La regia di Columbus è furba nello strizzare l’occhio allo spettatore mettendo al centro i veri protagonisti della storia, non gli attori in carne ossa, ma i personaggi dei video giochi che dominano la scena in maniera brillante e naturale creando i veri momenti divertenti riusciti dello show. L’intreccio narrativo ha dei evidenti buchi evidenziando un ritmo non sempre fluido e costante,ma dal punto di vista scenografico,il film soddisfa l’occhio dello spettatore.
Adam Sandler e il resto del cast svolgono il compito di spalla in maniera dignitosa e soprattutto rendendo credibile e reale come è la generazione di ragazzi vissuta negli anni 80, semmai piccola delusione per Michelle Monaghan,una bellezza quasi sfiorita neanche a quarant’anni.
“Pixels” non è un film da Oscar, né da premi in qualche Festival, ma siamo convinti che nel cuore del pubblico avrà un suo spazio come li hanno pac-man e gli altri giochi di quei tempi, perché allora bastavano 500 lire e una sala giochi per essere un ragazzo felice, quasi una chimera oggi le attuali generazioni.

80 years on you can say many things, for many it was the real golden age, for others the age of excess and unbridled hedonism, but for my generation it was mainly the years of the arcade and video games as : pack- man, space invanders, donkey kong and centipede.
How many afternoons spent with these wonderful aliens and cute monsters, games that seen with the eye of the kids today than to seem technologically archaic are also boring.
The boys of the 80 were satisfied with little and had many dreams like winning the world championship of video games such as Sam Brenner (Sandller), Will Cooper (James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Gad).
Sam is really the best of all and deserves to win the title, but is forced to give way in the final against Eddie “The Fire Blaster” Plant (Peter Dinklage) in playoff game Donkey Kong.
A defeat that affects the lives to the point that today, despite his talents systems, is continuing to have an anonymous installer as best friend Will, became instead the most contested and bumbling US president in history.
It is known, however, does not take much to become a hero and in the case of Sam what happened when Earth is attacked by a group of funny Aliens, which received NASA primala years before the final box of video games, assessing the human hostile decide not to challenge them tech weapons and dangerous, but by the monsters of the 80 fact putting in anguish the military and forcing Will to ask for help to his old friends, the real experts of the field.
Forget movies like “Independence Day” and the like, where the aliens communicate through music icons of the 80’s like Madonna or actors like Fonzie or the cult series such as “Fantasy Island” and have as a code of honor the rules of style room three lives games.
The viewer thus enters into battle together with Sam and his friends from India to London to New York without seeing a drop of blood, but witnessing clashes fun pixel-seeing in scene the various monsters of our youth
A film that focuses on nostalgia and nostalgic memory than on actual text or the dialogue credible and effective.
The viewer avoid asking questions and interrogasi on obvious holes script such as who these aliens are and where they come from, but they do carry this giant video game on the big screen and will not laugh and get excited recalling an age now away.
Directed by Columbus is sly wink at the viewer by focusing on the real protagonists of the story, not the actors of flesh bones, but the characters of video games that dominate the scene brilliantly and creating natural real funny moments managed the show. The storyline has some obvious holes showing a pace not always fluid and constant, but in terms of spectacular, the film meets the eye of the viewer.
Adam Sandler and the cast perform the task to shoulder with dignity and above all making it believable and real as is the generation of young people living in the 80’s, if anything small disappointment for Michelle Monaghan, a beauty almost faded even at forty.
“Pixels” is not a film by Oscar, nor in any festival awards, but we are convinced that at the heart of the public will have its own space as you have Pac-Man and other games of that time, because then enough and a 500 lire game room to be a happy, almost a pipe dream today current generations.
