La mia generazione è cresciuta vedendo in televisione e leggendo sui giornali la cruenta e infinita guerra arabo-israeliana e di come la parola “Intifada” sia diventata un vocabolo idoneo a raccontare la rabbia e rappresaglia di un popolo. Due stati per un solo territorio, due popoli in lotta tra loro per dimostrare la loro rispettiva esistenza e storia anche al resto del mondo. Ebbene dopo aver visto ieri sera le prime due puntate della miniserie “The Honourable Woman” la mia prospettiva sul conflitto che infiamma da decenni il Medio Oriente è cambiata. “The Honourable Woman” è Ness Stein(Maggie Gyllenhaal) giovane e bella donna inglese di origine israeliana proprietaria di un importante industria di armi, ma che ha deciso di investire le sue risorse per stabilire legame duraturo tra Israele e Palestina costruendo infrastrutture nella striscia di Gaza perché” si sconfigge il terrorismo creando ricchezza e annullando la povertà” Eppure la serie inizia in maniera cupa, forte, avvolgente con il brutale e feroce assassinio del padre di Ness e poco dopo con la misteriosa morte di un ricco imprenditore palestinese scelto Ness come vincitore della ricca gara d’appalto a Gaza. Una morte che provoca tensioni e malumori tra israeliani e palestinesi che si accusano a vicenda del delitto e soprattutto cominciano in ogni modo a fare pressioni sulla Stein affinchè scelga le loro rispettive imprese per realizzare il progetto di sviluppo. Ness Stein è un donna elegante, colta e nello stesso tempo determinata e soprattutto segnata dalla morte del padre e dalla lunga prigionia a cui è stata costretta quando anni prima quando fu rapita da un commando palestinese quando si trovava nella striscia di Gaza. Stein si muove tra impegni mondani e attività politica da quando è stata nominata “Baronessa di Tilbury della contea dell’Essex“, ma soprattutto cerca di rimanere in un precario e difficile equilibrio tra due fuochi. Il conflitto arabo –israeliano si sposta nella misteriosa e glamour Londra, non c’è più l’Intifada bensì si combatte tra spionaggio e contro spionaggio e dove gli interessi economici hanno preso il sopravvento sui temi religiosi e di identità nazionale Una fiction che si muove tra giallo, spy story e idealismo riuscendo a tenere un ritmo forse compassato e a tratti lento restando comunque avvolgente e interessante. Un testo che da un certo punto di vista sembra scritto per il teatro per le pause, i silenzi e per gli asciutti e incisivi dialoghi che lo spettatore si gode scena dopo scena e nonostante tutto ciò la struttura narrativa funziona perfettamente scandita dai copi di scena e dai immagini a tratti onirici che suscitano emozioni e un riuscito pathos narrativo. La regia è pulita, attenta, creativa e rigorosa nel dettare i giusti tempi alla storia alternando Maggie Gyllenhaal, fresca vincitrice del Golden Globe come migliore attrice, da prova di bellezza, talento e soprattutto di intensità scenica e pur recitando in punta di piedi lascia fin dall’inizio il suo notevole contributo alla riuscita della storia creando un personaggio credibile e di spessore stilistico e introspettivo. Il resto del cast è solido, di talento e adeguato al compito dando un importante quid alla serie. “The Honourable Woman” è un bel esempio di serie riuscita sia come contenuti e come recitazione e soprattutto vedendola da alla possibilità di poter allargare il proprio orizzonte e di riflettere sulle criticità del nostro turbolento mondo.

My generation grew up seeing on television and reading the newspapers the bloody and endless Arab-Israeli war and how the word “intifada” has become a term appropriate to tell the anger and retaliation of a people. Two states for one territory, two peoples fighting each other to prove their respective existence and history to the rest of the world. Well after watching last night the first two episodes of the miniseries “The Honourable Woman” my perspective on the conflict that inflames decades the Middle East has changed. “The Honourable Woman” is Ness Stein (Maggie Gyllenhaal) beautiful young Englishwoman Israeli-born owner of a major arms industry, but it has decided to invest its resources in order to establish lasting bond between Israel and Palestine by building infrastructure in the Strip Gaza because “we defeated terrorism by creating wealth and eradicating poverty” Yet the series begins in a dark, strong, enveloping with the brutal and savage murder of the father of Ness and shortly after the mysterious death of a wealthy Palestinian businessman Ness chosen as the winner of the rich tender in Gaza. A death that causes tensions and ill-feeling between the Israelis and Palestinians accuse each other of the crime and especially beginning in every way to put pressure on the Stein for you to choose their respective companies to realize the development project. Ness Stein is an elegant woman, educated and determined at the same time and above all marked by the death of his father and the long imprisonment which was forced when years earlier when she was kidnapped by a Palestinian commando when he was in the Gaza Strip. Stein moves between social engagements and political activity since he was named “Baroness of Tilbury Essex County”, but mostly try to stay in a precarious and difficult balance between two fires. A text from a certain point of view seems to be written for the theater for the pauses, silences and for dry and punchy dialogues that the viewer can enjoy the scene after scene, and despite all the narrative structure works perfectly articulated by the copy of the scene and by sometimes dreamlike images that arouse emotions and a successful narrative pathos. The direction is clear, careful, creative and rigorous in dictating the right time in history alternating Maggie Gyllenhaal, recently won the Golden Globe for Best Actress, as proof of beauty, talent and above intensity stage and while reciting tiptoed leaves from the beginning of its major contribution to the success of the story, creating a believable character and thick stylistic and introspective. The rest of the cast is solid, talented and adequate to the task making a significant quid to the series. “The Honourable Woman” is a fine example of a successful series both as content and as acting and especially seeing as the chance to broaden your horizon and to reflect on the critical issues of our turbulent world.
