L’amore materno è la più alta e profonda forma d’amore che esista in natura.
Di mamma c’è una sola e anche se spesso vorremo mandarla al diavolo, noi figli nei momenti di difficoltà cerchiamo il suo abbraccio e conforto.
Una mamma è anche una donna con desideri e sentimenti , vizi e problemi.
Una mamma è dunque un super eroe?
Probabilmente si, se mette da parte la propria vita e sogni per crescere e accudire il proprio figlio e lo amo sempre e comunque.
“Mommy” è la storia di Diane (Dorval), una bella donna di mezz’età e soprattutto madre del problematico figlio Steve(Pilon). Diane è rimasta vedova e cerca di sbarcare il lunario con umili lavori, ma la fatica maggiore è gestire Steve che passa da un ricovero all’altro perché affetto dall’ADHD, disturbo che gli provoca problemi nell’autocontrollo e di concentrazione e attenzione nello studio. L’ADHD per molti è considerata una malattia invalidante e bisognoso di cure farmacologiche. In un futuro non troppo lontano l’autore immagina che in Canada si possa ricoverare in reparti psichiatrici chiunque soffra di qualche disagio mentale senza alcuna autorizzazione legale qualora diventi un peso o un pericolo per i familiari. Diane rifiuta l’idea di rinchiudere il figlio in ospedale e cerca in tutti i modi di fargli fare una vita “normale”. Una vita scandita da un rapporto morboso e nevrotico tra i due , ma basato soprattutto su grande amore. Madre e figlio si amano, si odiano, si sopportano e si sostengono a vicenda nel quotidiano. La coppia diventa un trio quando nella loro vita entra la vicina di casa Kyla(Clèment) giovane professoressa balbuziente anche lei madre, e alla ricerca della pace interiore dopo la perdita di un figlio. Tre personaggi che si ritrovano ad essere quasi una famiglia e a tenersi per mano di fronte a una vita e una realtà dura e difficile. Nonostante gli sforzi di Diane e l’aiuto di Kyla per far studiare privatamente il figlio, la situazione precipita causa l’instabilità emotiva di Steve costringendo la madre a una drastica e drammatica scelta.
La sceneggiatura di“Mommy” deve essere considerata come un ricco e delicato album di fotografie che l’autore mostra allo spettatore. Sono istantanee di vita che trasudano emozioni, tensioni e che permettano di conoscere i personaggi e i loro stati d’animo. Sono foto a colori dense di significato, ma non ordinate, bensì caotiche senza un filo logico che alla fine fanno disperdere l’attenzione del pubblico facendo venire meno soprattutto nella seconda parte l’intensità e la forza del pathos narrativo. La struttura del film sebbene semplice manca di linearità risultando confusa e caotica. “Mommy” vorrebbe essere nell’intento dell’autore una bella storia d’amore, ma il ritmo lento, compassato, ondivago solo in parte riesce a portare fuori dallo schermo la potenzialità emotiva che il film ha nel suo DNA.
La regia è di valore , piace e convince nella sua freschezza, innovazione e creatività nel realizzare un buon connubio tra immagini, parole e musica, anche mostra qualche limite legata alla giovane età nel condurre la storia in porto senza perdere slancio e forza nel raccontarla
Il cast è da promuovere in toto per il talento, carisma e forza interprativa che hanno dimostrato nell’interpretare i personaggi difficili e complessi senza mai rischiare nel cadere ridicolo o grottesco come poteva avvenire con un testo del genere. Riescono a dare anima e sostanza ai protagonisti, creando un intensa tra di loro e soprattutto empatia con il pubblico. La scelta coraggiosa del regista di effettuare molti primi piani è stata ripagata dall’intensa capacità degli attori di reggerli senza difficoltà.
Il finale anche se drammatico e amaro piace e suscita commozione perché l’amore tra una madre e figlio anche se messo a dura prova non potrà mai venire meno.

ADHD for many is considered a disabling disease and in need of drug treatment. In a not too distant future the author imagines that in Canada we can hospitalize in psychiatric wards anyone suffering from some mental illness without any legal authorization if it becomes a burden or a danger to the family. Diane refuses the idea of locking up his son to the hospital and tries in every way to make it do a “normal” life. A life marked by an unhealthy relationship between the two and neurotic, but based primarily on love. Mother and son love each other, hate each other, they are tolerant and support each other in everyday life. The couple became a trio when in their life enters the neighbor Kyla (Clément) young professor mother she stuttered, and the search for inner peace after the loss of a child. Three characters who happen to be almost a family and holding hands in front of a life and a really hard and difficult. Despite the efforts of Diane and the help of Kyla to study privately son, the situation worsened due to the emotional instability of Steve forcing his mother to a drastic and dramatic choice.
The screenplay for “Mommy” must be regarded as a rich and delicate album of photographs that the author shows the viewer. They are snapshots of life that exude emotions, tensions and making it possible to know the characters and their moods. Color photos are full of meaning, but not ordered, but chaotic without a logical thread that eventually they disperse public attention thereby removing especially in the second part of the intensity and strength of the narrative pathos. The structure of the film though simple lack of linearity resulting confusing and chaotic. “Mommy,” the intention of the author would like to be a beautiful love story, but the pace slow, staid, wavering only partly able to bring off the screen the potential emotional that the movie has in its DNA.
Directed by value, like and convincing in its freshness, innovation and creativity in achieving a good combination of images, words and music, also shows some limitations due to the young age in the lead story in the port without losing momentum and strength in the telling
The cast is to be promoted in toto for talent, charisma and strength interprativa that have proven difficult to interpret the characters and complex without ever risking the fall ridiculous or grotesque as could be done with such a text. They manage to give soul and substance to the protagonists, creating an intense between them and above all empathy with the audience. The brave decision of the director to make many close-ups has been rewarded by the intense capacity of actors to reggerli without difficulty.
The final although dramatic and bitter like and arouses emotion because the love between a mother and son even if put to the test will never be lacking.
